NACOGDOCHES, Texas – As part of the 10th annual College Colors Day celebration, Stephen F. Austin is participating in the Spirit Cup competition and is asking for fan support to help win this year’s cup. Prizes include a $10,000 donation towards the general scholarship fund as well as a chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to the College Football Playoff National Championship game.

The Spirit Cup is a points-based rivalry competition that utilizes social media platforms to crown its champion. Lumberjack fans can earn points for SFA by showcasing their school spirit on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtags #CollegeColors and #AxeEm. Bonus points can be earned by sharing those posts via the College Colors Day app. The school with the most points at the end of the competition will be crowned the Spirit Cup champion and receive a $10,000 donation towards its general scholarship fund.

As part of the contest, SFA Athletics will be having a photo competition. Send in photos of you sporting your best Lumberjack gear to Twitter (@SFA_Athletics) and Facebook (SFA Athletics) with the official hashtags. The best photos will then be selected and fans can vote for their favorite during the week of August 25th with the winner receiving a replica SFA football helmet and four tickets to the Battle of the Piney Woods at NRG Stadium in Houston on November 1st.

That leads into College Colors Day on Friday, August 29th, where fans are encouraged to wear SFA gear to show their support for the Lumberjacks on the eve of the 2014 college football season.

Lumberjack fans are encouraged to visit the CollegeColorsDay.com website to learn how to earn points for SFA, stay up-to-date on the latest the Spirit Cup standings and register to win an all-expenses paid trip for two to the inaugural College Football Playoff (CFP) National Championship game. The winner will receive round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, a $500 American Express gift card, and two tickets to the national championship game, courtesy of CLC and the CFP.

Lumberjack fans can earn additional entries in the CFP sweepstakes by supporting SFA in the Spirit Cup competition. Once registered for the CFP sweepstakes, each action that a fan takes to support SFA in the Spirit Cup competition earns them additional sweepstakes entries and increases their chances of winning. Eligible actions include:

• Sending a tweet using #CollegeColors and #AxeEm
• Posting a photo on Twitter or Instagram using #CollegeColors and #AxeEm
• Sharing a picture on Twitter or Instagram via the College Colors Day app using #CollegeColors and #AxeEm

The Spirit Cup competition kicks off on August 1 and runs through August 28 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Winners of both the Spirit Cup competition and the College Football Playoff sweepstakes will be announced on College Colors Day, Friday, August 29, via CollegeColorsDay.com.

In conjunction with the Spirit Cup competition and the CFP sweepstakes, Lumberjack fans will also have the opportunity to support the CFP’s philanthropic initiative, Extra Yard for Teachers. The program, which supports teachers by providing classroom resources, professional development opportunities and a recognition program, will receive $1 for every click a fan makes on the Extra Yard for Teachers ad within the College Colors Day app.

SFA opens up the 2014 campaign in 29 days on Saturday, August 30th, when SFA travels to Manhattan, Kan., to battle Big 12 foe Kansas State. The `Jacks open up the 2014 home schedule the following Saturday, hosting SLC newcomer Incarnate Word at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6.
