Nacogdoches CVB to host join centennial celebration Sept. 29
Posted 09 - 26 - 2017

The Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau will host a public come-and-go reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, celebrating the 100th birthdays of the Nacogdoches American Red Cross Chapter and the Charles Bright Visitors Center.

The reception will celebrate and honor the many ways these separate entities have served the Nacogdoches Community throughout the years.

Specifically, the reception will highlight how the Red Cross chapter has provided shelter, food and comfort for major disaster evacuees as well as emergency funding for food, clothing and shelter for more than 60 families who were victims of home fires.

Additionally, the evolving roles of the Charles Bright Visitors Center building will be highlighted, including how it originally served as the Nacogdoches United States Post Office and Federal Building and later as the city’s public library.

To commemorate the event, proclamations will be read by Texas State Representative Travis Clardy and Nacogdoches Mayor Shelley Brophy.

Light hor d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served, as well as a commemorative centennial cake. Red Cross and visitor center historical items will be on display.

The event is open to the public and will be held in the Charles Bright Visitors Center, located at 200 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.
