Advocacy & Public Affairs
Co-Chair Donna Finley, The Shack & Austin Hall
Co-Chair Ted Smith, State Farm Insurance
This committee helps to promote public policy initiatives that will help position Nacogdoches County to prosper by monitoring state, local and federal issues that are important to Nacogdoches County. In partnership with the Lufkin/Angelina Chamber of Commerce, they host Chamber Days in Austin. In 2024, the committee produced the Lone Star Legislative Summit in Nacogdoches and communicate with elected and appointed officials. LSLS is co-hosted by State Senator Robert Nichols and State Representative Travis Clardy.
The Nacogdoches County Chamber believes it is important for business people to be aware of state and national issues that affect free enterprise. We monitor state issues through our membership in the Texas Association of Business (TAB) and national issues through our membership in the US Chamber of Commerce. The Nacogdoches County Chamber is, however, completely independent of these organizations and do not necessarily endorse their positions. The Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce is an independent 501(c)6 nonprofit organization.
Shop Nac First
Shop Nac First raises the visibility and importance of buying local in our community. This campaign promotes local businesses and urges our residents to do their shopping and dining within Nacogdoches County. By shopping, dining, drinking, playing, and utilizing local services within our community, we can help Nacogdoches’ local businesses to remain unique, successful, and vibrant.

Chamber joins The Daily Sentinel in fight against tariff
The Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce board of directors joined the Sentinel in the fight against a newsprint tariff by sending letters asking Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz to intervene.
“The grassroots pressure to overturn the tariffs played a huge role in the final decision. We really appreciated the local chamber standing behind The Sentinel in this fight. Even though it was a national issue, we received support from State Sen. Robert Nichols and State Rep. Travis Clardy,” said Sentinel publisher Rick Craig. “The chamber’s advocacy in a business or organization’s behalf is just one of the many benefits that the chamber provides." Read more.
