Grab your bicycle or your walking shoes and "Blaze a new Trail for Ab" with the rest of the Nacogdoches community who will ride or walk from the East Austin Street bridge to the North Loop on Saturday, October 24 at 8 a.m.
The bike-ride or walk is a tribute for the late Dr. F.E. "Ab" Abernethy, a former professor at Stephen F. Austin State University, the former editor and executive secretary of the Texas Folklore Society who was known in the Nacogdoches community as "The Man Who Built the Lanana Creek Trail."
The six-mile trek will feature three stops along the way: first, the LaNana and Banita Creek Projects which will have maps of the trails, which will be updated soon, and a place for donations to the trails; second, Fitness 360 will offer different stretching exercises to warm up participants muscles at the halfway mark; lastly, the Nacogdoches Healthy Coalition will offer water and brochures about their organization.
Parking will be available at University Plaza, Edward Jones, the Post Office and ther Native Plant Center.
