We are bigger than the battle!
On Friday, Oct. 30, the Nacogdoches community is invited to participate in the annual blood drive competition between SFASU and SHSU at CBTx in the downtown district from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Though the rivalry between the schools is strong, together, both communities will be able to save hundreds of lives with a donation.
With an attempt to donate, any patron will receive a custom purple "Commit For Life" t-shirt.
Before you donate, the American Red Cross recommends that you eat food high in iron, like red meat, fish, poultry, beans, spinach, iron-fortified cereals and raisins and eat a healthy meal right before donating and to avoid greasy food. Drink lots of water, get a good night's sleep and bring two forms of your ID.
During your donation, according to the American Red Cross, make sure that you wear clothing with sleeves that can be raised above the elbow. Try as hard as you can to relax by listening to music or talking to other donors and after you are done, drink plenty of water and eat a snack.
After your donation, according to the American Red Cross, drink lots of water and avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours. Avoid heavy lifting or any vigorous physical activity for the rest of the day. If you feel dizzy or light-headed, sit or lay down.
