This Friday, October 30, the Appleby Community Farm at 6 PM will host a local foods dinner prepared by Chef Sara Ross and served with local wines. Guest speaker, Paula Cook, will talk about sustainable food practices and Cindy Grayson will play music.

2. RECOGNIZE YOUR FAVORITE TREE!
The Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture is inviting the community to channel their inner forester by sharing a tree they believe deserves special recognition as a part of our Nacogdoches TREES competition. The event, open until November 1, is open to the SFA and surrounding Nacogdoches community. Eligible trees must be located on the SFA campus or on property managed by Nacogdoches Parks and Recreation. Prizes will be awarded to winners from each of the five available categories. Nikki Cumby (Grandma's Best) will be back. She sells fried pies in a variety of flavors which include apple, apricot, peach, cherry, pineapple, chocolate, coconut, vanilla, lemon, buttermilk, pecan and sweet potato. What makes her fried pies different from others is in the fruit pies, she also use dried fruit. The size of her pies are much larger than the average pie. #10 Michael Cid with the New Day Baking Company will be serving breakfast burritos, chicken fajita tacos, omelets and pancakes. He will also be selling yard eggs, fresh juices, foccacia bread and other baked goods at the farmers market made whenever possible of items from the farmers market. The New Day Baking Company is a one of a kind bakery specializing in local, organic, and gluten free products. Wynn and Pam Havard with Jellytree Mayhaw Farm will be at the market this week. They will have lots of mayhaw jelly, pepper jelly, and a variety of jams. All of our jams and jellies are made one batch at a time with locally grown fruit and pure cane sugar. Stop by for a sample!
Peggie Hobbs probably won't be at the market this Saturday if it rains. She sells aprons, hand-made tote bags and sunbonnets, as well as, crocheted scarves and hats to keep you warm. She will also be introducing assorted baby items and kitchen decor items.
George Partain will be returning with eggplants, onions, unshelled red ripper peas, shelled purple hull peas, squash (patti-pan, yellow & zucchini), sweet potatoes and tomatoes (red & green).
The SFA Horticulture Club will be back with starter plants (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale & mustard) and succulents.
