The Longleaf Alliance will offer a three-day course called "Longleaf 101" on January 19-21 in Rayburn County for $300.

The course will offer an in-depth classroom and field instruction in “all things longleaf”. The intent is to better prepare landowners and natural resource professionals to address management problems specific to longleaf forests and to create a uniformly well-informed network of longleaf managers to extend the reach of The Longleaf Alliance.

Private landowners, federal and state agency personnel nursery representatives, private natural resource professionals such as consultants, industry employees, TIMO’s, REITs, and NGO’s throughout the longleaf natural range are encouraged to attend.

The $300 course fee includes the registration fee, materials, lodging at the Rayburn Country Club, 2376 Wingate Blvd, Jasper, TX 75951, on Tuesday and Wednesday night and all meals.

Topics will include the history of longleaf pine, he use of fire in longleaf ecosystems, artificial regeneration, including site selection, seedling quality, site preparation, planting and release techniques, natural regeneration systems, stand management, Longleaf growth, yield and stand dynamics, wildlife management, cost-share opportunities, understory restoration, diseases and insect identification, economics, products and available resources and materials.

The course is sponsored by the Dobbs Foundation and the Texas Longleaf Implementation Team.
