Nacogdoches Farmers' Market newsletter for June 24

The market is open Saturdays from 8 AM until after noon. We have close to 30 vendors on Saturdays!

Wednesday market is now open from Noon to 5 PM every Wednesday. We have 10-12 vendors currently on Wednesdays!!

Saturday Market, June 4, from 8 AM until just after noon
 
NOTICE TO CUSTOMERS AND VENDORS: All items for sale are required to be locally grown or locally made. Our produce vendors are inspected quarterly. Please check out the display case... it lists every farmer, the date of their most recent inspection, and who inspected them. WE care because YOU care!

Things you might find include: LOCAL produce… vegetables, fruits, herbs, artisan Texas cheeses, hand-made clothes, home crafted items, free-range eggs, baked goods (breads, cakes, mini cheesecakes, cookies, cupcakes & pies), canned goods (jams & jellies, marmalade, preserves, pickled vegetables, salsas & relishes), local raw honey, jewelry, fried pies, plants, goat milk soaps, local wines, wood products, and more.

Local Produce this time of year includes: asparagus, fresh frozen shelled pinto beans, green beans, beets, blackberries, blueberries, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, celery, cilantro, cucumbers, greens (arugula, collards, kale, mustard, spinach, Swiss chard, tatsoi & turnip), herbs, kohlrabi, lettuce, green onions, parsley, fresh peas (snow & sugar snap), fresh frozen shelled purple hull peas, banana peppers, new potatoes, radishes, squash (yellow & zucchini), peaches, greenhouse tomatoes (green & red) and turnips.

NUMBERS START ON THE SOUTH END CLOSEST TO MAIN ST

#1 David Kimling will be selling smoked Gouda and other artisan cheeses from Brazos Valley Cheese of Waco, Texas; artisan blue & cheddar cheeses (jalapeno, sharp cheddar & caraway) from Veldhuizen Farms of Dublin, Texas and goat cheeses from the Haystack Mountain Goat Dairy (including artisan gouda, Camembert, chevre, chili Jack, half cow/half goat cheese and red cloud).

#2 Joyce Goranson grinds Organic KAMUT grains to bake Fresh Fermented Breads--7-Grain, Honey Oat, Tomato Basil, Raisin, Flatbread Pitas and Pizza Crusts--and Cowboy Cookies.  $5 per loaf/bag or 2/$9.  Spa Therapy Pillows, therapeutic shoulder/neck warmers to relax muscles or help relieve arthritic pain, available in favorite prints and plaids @ $20 or 2/$36 and Eye Pillows to help dry eyes, recommended by Dr. Shannon Smith, M.D @ $10 or 2/$18. Her email address is: vikingland.enterprises@gmail.com and her cell is:  #901-674-5113. 

#3 Michelle Craig will be back.  She sells Mini specialty cheesecakes, assorted cookies, fried pies, fried meat pies, buttermilk pies and various other goodies.
 
#3 Johanna Taylor w "Peaceful Gardens and Charitable Temples" will be back with carrots, cilantro, spinach and strawberries.  She will also have basil, broccoli and green pepper potted plants.

#4 Maydelle Country will selling fruit wines. Their wines are made in small batches and bottled one at a time with the attitude of "If it ain't fun, it ain't right."

#4 Weda Scholes will have free range pastured eggs.  She will also be selling foccacia bread, 10 grain fermented honey loaf bread and pumpkin rolls.

#5 Kathy McCaffrey have an assortment of herbs, including lemon basil, fennel, lavender, mint, Greek oregano, rosemary and lemon thyme.
 (She is at the market every other week).  

#5 Jill Griffin sells farm fresh - free range eggs. (She is at the market every other week).  

#6 The Jones family from Texadus Family Farm in Timpson will be selling Jalapeno Cheese Bread, Flour Tortillas, Buttermilk Biscuits, Lemon Sunshine Rolls, and more baked goods, spice blends, granolas, and jams and jellies made with local fruit and sweetened with local honey (NO SUGAR!!) They will have their hand crafted goat's milk soap made from their own goat's milk available (We milk the goats! We make the soap!).  Come by, smell the soaps, and ask questions. #7 Jackie McBroom WILL be selling for Opal Blume, who is not feeling well. Jackie will have beeswax, local honey, creamed honey.

#8 Millard Farms will have asparagus, 2 varieties of green beans, fresh frozen shelled pinto beans, cucumbers, beets, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, celery, cilantro, greens (arugula, collard, kale, Red Asian mustard, spinach, Swiss chard & turnip), kohlrabi, 4 kinds of lettuce, green onions, parsley, fresh peas (snow &sugar snap), fresh frozen shelled purple hull peas, new potatoes, squash (yellow & zucchini), blackberries, strawberry preserves, radishes, tomatoes, and turnips.

#9 Malcolm Brown of Center will have fresh peaches from his orchard.
 
#9 Jacob and Lisa Weems with "Fine Southern Pickles" will be back! They'll have Sweet Pickles, Sweet &Spicy, Sweet Red, Dill, and Spicy Dills.
 
#10 Michael Cid with the New Day Baking Company will be back.  He serves breakfast burritos, chicken fajita tacos, omelets and pancakes.  He will also be selling yard eggs, fresh juices, foccacia bread and other baked goods.
 
#11  Ann Marie Fraser will be back.  She sells Annie Moo Moo's Gourmet Goodies (jams, jellies, pickled items and salts). 

     
 #11 Fred Wharton has organic produce.  He will have kale, head lettuce, green onions, new potatoes, radishes and freckles squash.
 
#12 Emma Jean Pugh will be selling tamales.

#13 Cindy Pruett with the Appleby Community Farm will be at the market this week.  She will have eggs, flowers, herbs, kombucha, and veggies. For information about the Appleby Community Farm CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm on HWY 59 between Appleby and HWY 259, check out their website: www.applebycommunityfarm.com or stop by and visit with them at the market for membership information.

VENDORS OUTSIDE COVERED AREA – Depending on the weather!
 
Jo-Jo will be selling Asian BBQ (chicken-on-a-stick & pork-on-a-stick), egg-rolls and pancit noodles.
 
Louis Duffield will be selling blackberry, blueberry, plum, mayhaw jelly. Plum and peach jam.  He will also have blueberry and blackberry plants. Check out his website Stoney-Brookfarm.Com and his Facebook page for specials and updates.

Naca Valley Vineyard is bringing back the dry red Dolcetto introduced at last week's market. Drop by Saturday for a tasting of this newest bottling, plus the Vermentino semisweet white and the Bad Day Rose’. We’ll share all of the exciting news about the new wines and the upcoming sweet red table blend. Stop by our booth and we’ll share all of the exciting news about the new wines and the tasting room to open this summer at 9897 FM 1878.

 
Wynn and Pam Havard with Jellytree Mayhaw Farm will be back with FRESH blueberries. They sell lots of mayhaw, plum, blackberry & blueberry jellies and jams.
 
Keith Wright will be back with his chuck wagon.  He will be demonstrating Dutch oven cooking with cobblers, pies and rolls for sale.
 
Jim Duty will have farm fresh - free range eggs. Robert Fleet has returned.  He will have green beans, unshelled pinto beans, carrots, onions, potatoes and squash (yellow & zucchini). 
 
Mike Doughty will be back.  He sells new birdhouses and feeders, wooden toys and pine needle baskets.
 
Jonathan from the Perkins Farm will be selling greenhouse tomatoes (green& red).  They will also be selling cabbages, cucumbers, jalapenos, new potatoes and yellow squash. 

George Partin will have green beans, unshelled pinto beans, cucumbers, red onions, banana peppers, new potatoes, squash (yellow & zucchini) and  tomatoes (green & red).
 
Julie Rice will be at market.  She sells fresh made HOT, Med, and mild salsa, a variety of jellies and low sugar jellies (blackberry,  plum, peach, figs) tasty individual apple pies baked in a mason jar and freshly made apple-butter. Along with soup in a jar and pickled eggs.

 
Mary Ronzello, will be set up with Julie Rice. Mary has organic produce.
