Saturday, December 10th... is looking a lot better than last week. It should be a little warmer and a LOT drier. JoJo plans to be out serving up his fabulous Philipino BBQ. Cindy Grayson will play if it warms up enough. Remember for our musicians it is not about comfort... they really can't play if their fingers are too cold. We are expecting OVER 20 vendors... so come out and do your grocery shopping, pick up special items for holiday gatherings... and do some gift shoppinig too. We have a BIG announcement this week.
In an effort to better serve our community... as of Saturday, December 10th... the Nacogdoches Farmers Market will begin accepting SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). The South Side Nacogdoches Fire Department will be assisting us with this at the Welcome Center. Bring your card to the Welcome Center and use it to get tokens to be spent at the Nac Farmers Market... then look for the BRIGHT ORANGE signs posted on individual booths announcing that vendor accepts SNAP tokens. There will be flyers and signs helping to explain what items are SNAP eligible.
Farmers Markets are about more than food, more than farmers, more than *buy local*. Farmers markets are about building communities and building relationships. The Nacogdoches Farmer's Market is seeking acoustic musicians to perform at our Saturday AND Wednesday markets. Compensation comes in the form of tips from both customers and the market vendors as well as a SMALL stipend from the market that will hopefully increase with time. Their wines are made in small batches and bottled one at a time with the attitude of "If it ain't fun, it ain't right." Their wine list consists of Lemon, Lime, Grapefruit, Elderberry, Blackberry, Peach, a Pear/Apricot blend (Texas Sunset), pineapple and others that will be rotated by stock. My Grandfather made a good living selling his produce at markets all over the state. I sell restored American made axes and other edge tools for use on the farm, ranch, and campsite.
