Annual Drill in The Pines Equestrian Drill Team Competition
Posted 03/14/2017

Roselake Ranch Drill Team is sponsoring the annual “Drill in The Pines” Equestrian Drill Team Competition, at the Nacogdoches Expo Center, Nacogdoches, Texas, Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 8 a.m. to until we are done! Equestrian drill teams and mounted color guard units from across Texas will compete in several different divisions: Adult, Youth, Novice, Theme, Gaited, Rodeo, Championship, and Challenged riders.

The camaraderie, skill, and attention to detail formed within each drill, quad and color guard unit is closely akin to that seen at other team sports, such as, soccer, baseball, synchronized swimming, figure skating, etc.

Each of the teams competing in the “Drill in the Pines” have compiled countless hours in practice, choreography, music selection, costume design, fund raising and travel. The Roselake Drill Team has 30 riding members that make up the Roselake Rangers, Renegades, Quad, Rebels A & B and championship teams.  The Roselake Rebels 16-man team won a blue ribbon at Nationals in 2016.  The Outstanding youth riders have been selected to ride on the All-Stars Team at Nationals in Lindale, Texas. Riders range in skill levels and ages, making up a close knit drill team family.

“Drill stems back to the military, and it’s all about precision.  Any horse can do this; it doesn't have to be a big show horse.  It can be from a pony to a draft horse.  The great thing about drill, is that anyone can participate.  It doesn't have to be a $30,000 horse.  Everyone can have horsemanship skills - and drill, I think, helps promote that…” - Carmen Herrmann Stiles, Judge, United States Equestrian Drill Championship
