Boozer Family named Farm Family of the Year

The Hyman and Ben Boozer family will receive this year’s Farm Family of the Year award, sponsored by Tipton Ford-Lincoln, at the 16th annual Agriculture Appreciation and Awareness Banquet, presented by TFP Nutrition, on April 10 at the Nacogdoches County Exposition and Civic Center.

Agriculture is the backbone of the Boozer family. Although Hyman had a career off the ranch, agriculture was his passion. After retiring from the banking industry, Hyman manages his cow-calf operation and stocker cattle business with his son Ben and daughter-in- law Jessie. They also grow hay and pine timber. “It makes us feel good that the community recognizes that we, as a family, enjoy the opportunities that we have been blessed with in the field of agriculture,” Hyman said. Hyman, Phyllis, Ben and Jessie do everything together as a family that has to do with the cattle business. Ben is also Captain for the Nacogdoches Fire Department.

He and his wife Jessie, along with their two children Khylie Rae and Kambree Lynn, also operate Pine Top Horse Stables and Arena where they board horses, ride, train and teach riding lessons. They also provide young people in the community the opportunity to ride horses through birthday parties and other special events. Aside from the family’s cow-calf operation, the Boozers also provide pre-conditioning and heifer development services to their customers. Ben manages a day work crew of cowboys who work cattle for customers all over East Texas. Hyman’s influence and willingness to lend a hand doesn’t stop there.

For 30 years, Hyman has served on the Nacogdoches County Steer Show Committee and is the chairman of the Nacogdoches Beef Committee. The committee consists of local ranchers who come together and host agricultural programs covering different beef topics, such as raising heifers, how to work cattle and more. He also gives back to agriculture by serving in leadership roles for various organizations. He serves on the Nacogdoches County Farm Bureau board of directors, where he has held the offices of president and vice president and serves as a member of Texas Farm Bureau’s (TFB) Beef Advisory Committee.

He’s also a member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. “Agriculture is part of the Boozers’ way of life,” TFB President Russell Boening said. “This award is a true honor and recognizes such a deserving family. They are willing to lend a hand to those in their community and in agriculture, and they’ve shown the leadership that agriculture needs.” Agriculture is a family tradition. It’s a legacy Hyman has passed on to Ben. And one Hyman hopes will continue with his grandchildren.
