NISD hires new Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction

NACOGDOCHES, May 15, 2017Nacogdoches ISD Board of Trustees approved the employment of Sami Kinsey as the new Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction during a special school board meeting on May 11.

Kinsey has been working with NISD as the Curriculum and Instruction Consultant during the 2016-2017 school year. She works with campus leadership, district interventionists, reading specialists, and other curriculum focused specialists to improve students' outcomes.

Kinsey graduated University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Education and earned her masters at Texas State University in Education Administration. Kinsey hold the following certifications: Texas Principal Certification, Texas Teacher Certification, Elementary Self-Contained Grades (1-8), Elementary Psychology Grades (1-8), and TTESS Certification.

"Originally, I chose the educational field because I loved teaching students," said Kinsey. "Over the years, I've grown to love working with teachers and administrators on strengthening instructional programs and improving student achievement. Education is my passion."

With 25 years of experience in the field of education, Kinsey has served as a fourth-grade teacher, elementary assistant principal, elementary principal, ELA coordinator, curriculum director, middle school principal, and educational professional coach. Most recent honor was being named Region 13 Secondary Principal of the Year for 2014.

"I believe that achievement and success are possibilities for all students," said Kinsey. "The way to achievement is through high expectations for all students."

She comes from Central Texas with a love for reading, swimming, and spending time at the lake with family. Kinsey has been married to Rodney Kinsey for 37 years.  They have three daughters and one son.  "We have been blessed with 10 grandchildren, who keep our lives very busy," said Kinsey.

"I'm thrilled to have been selected as the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum," said Kinsey. "I'm excited to be serving the students, parents, teachers and the community of Nacogdoches. I believe by working together as one, we can improve the educational outcome of all students."

"Sami has been working fabulously with our campuses to improve student outcomes," said Superintendent Sandra Dowdy. "We are lucky to have such a motivated and experienced person joining our team as the new assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction."
