The Junior League of Lufkin’s Back to School Bonanza
Provides Free Resources to Angelina County School-Aged Children
The Junior League of Lufkin, in partnership with Angelina County churches, businesses, and
service organizations, will hold the 7th Annual Back to School Bonanza on August 12th. During
the event, over 3,000 free backpacks filled with school supplies will be provided to Angelina
County school-aged children and adolescents in grades Kindergarten to 12th. In addition to the
backpacks, participants can receive a haircut, provided by local stylists, a free school uniform,
and a new pair of shoes, while supplies last.
“We’ve already seen what a positive impact the Back to School Bonanza has had on our
community, and we are committed to making it bigger and better year after year,” said Rebecca
Henderson, Junior League of Lufkin Back to School Bonanza Chair. “We’re excited to see Back
to School Bonanza grow into a community-wide event. We’re happy to have ongoing support
from all of our partners, First United Methodist Church of Lufkin, Buckner Children & Family
Services, First Baptist Church of Lufkin, Southside Baptist Church, First Christian Church,
Calvary Baptist Church, the Concerned Black Men of Lufkin, Marine Corps Toys for Tots, First
Missionary Baptist Church, Timbercreek Church, Eastview Pentecostal Church, Harmony Hill
Baptist Church and the Lufkin & Angelina chapters of Rotary International.Thank you to all who
are stepping up to help with this worthwhile project.”
Back to School Bonanza is scheduled for Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
at the Pitser Garrison Convention Center, located at 601 N. 2nd Street in downtown Lufkin.
Buckner Children and Family Services is in the process of pre-registering students and will also
be on hand the day of the event to assist with registering families who are not pre-registered prior

The Junior League of Lufkin is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism
and to improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained
volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The League’s vision is to
enhance the lives of children and women in the community through diverse projects and
