Angelina Arts Alliance to receive grant from the National Endowment for the Arts

LUFKIN, TX. The Angelina Arts Alliance is thrilled to announce that it has been selected to receive a federal arts grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
The National Endowment for the Arts Acting Chairman Mary Anne Carter has approved more than $27 million in grants as part of the Arts Endowment’s first major funding announcement for fiscal year 2019. Included in this announcement is a Challenge America grant of $10,000 to Angelina Arts Alliance for Black Violin community concert in partnership with Impact Lufkin. Challenge America grants support projects that extend the reach of the arts to underserved populations—those whose opportunities to experience the arts are limited by geography, ethnicity, economics, or disability.
“The arts enhance our communities and our lives, and we look forward to seeing these projects take place throughout the country, giving Americans opportunities to learn, to create, to heal, and to celebrate,” said Mary Anne Carter, acting chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts.
“We are honored to be selected as a grant recipient by the National Endowment for the Arts. This grant affirms our commitment to extend the reach of the arts into every corner of our community, and is recognition of the quality of the project which was the subject of the grant. The Black Violin community concert is about creating cultural opportunities for everyone to experience, which is the very purpose of Angelina Arts Alliance,” said Jennifer Allen, Executive Director of the Angelina Arts Alliance.
The Angelina Arts Alliance will present the musical duo Black Violin for a community concert at Lufkin Middle School on March 21, 2019. In partnership with Impact Lufkin, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, this event will be specifically geared toward the citizens that reside in North Lufkin, also known as Wards 1 and 2. Black Violin will perform one school time matinee for middle and high school aged children and one public performance in the evening, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Angelina Arts Alliance will work with Impact Lufkin to promote and reach the underserved citizens in North Lufkin to attend the evening performance at little to no cost to them.
This performance and partnership is an effort by the Angelina Arts Alliance to further advance its mission and is a natural response to the findings set forth within the Appreciative Inquiry Report of Wards 1 and 2.
