NINE Fabulous Shows Are Sure to Thrill!
LUFKIN, TX. The Angelina Arts Alliance announced its upcoming 2019-2020 Temple Theater Performing Arts Series to the public today at 12 noon at the Lufkin/Angelina county Chamber of Commerce First Friday luncheon at Crown Colony Country Club.
The Angelina Arts Alliance is celebrating its 19th year of presenting world-renowned performing arts in Lufkin. In conjunction with the 2019-2020 season announcement, the Arts Alliance will begin accepting requests for season ticket subscriptions. Becoming a season ticket holder means having the same seat – guaranteed – for all eight performances within the Temple Theater Performing Arts Series, and never having to wait in line hoping to get tickets only to discover the show is sold out.
Each new season the Angelina Arts Alliance seems to raise the bar in terms of exceptional programming, and the 2019-2020 Season does just that. The new season line-up will literally bring the best performing arts from around the world right here in Lufkin, Texas. The new season represents a diverse array of performing arts genres and represents the community where we live.

THE CHARLIE DANIELS BAND – Saturday, September 7, 2019, 7:30 p.m.
From his Dove Award-winning gospel albums to his genre-defining Southern rock anthems and his CMA Award-winning country hits, few artists have left a more indelible mark on America’s musical landscape than Charlie Daniels. An outspoken patriot, beloved mentor to young artists and still a road warrior at age 80, Charlie has parlayed his passion for music into a multi-platinum career and a platform to support the military, underprivileged children and others in need.
With more than 20 million albums sold, Charlie Daniels is a proud member of the Grand Ole Opry, Musicians Hall of Fame and Country Music Hall of Fame. Charlie Daniels is best known for his many top ten hits, including “Long Haired Country Boy,” “The South’s Gonna Do It Again,” “In America,” “The Legend of Wooley Swamp,” and, of course, his signature song , “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” which won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group in 1979.

Taj Express explodes with the sounds of India and Bollywood, capturing the vibrant, expressive spirit of the world of Bollywood movies that have been entertaining billions of people in India for generations. Through a fusion of film, dance, and music, this dazzling international sensation takes audiences on a live cinematic journey through modern Indian culture and society. The production is a high energy celebration of new India’s pop music, Bollywood culture, and deep traditions featuring colorful costumes, joyful dance, and thrilling live music.
GEORGIA ON MY MIND: CELEBRATING THE MUSIC OF RAY CHARLES – Thursday, November 21, 2019, 7:30 p.m.
Ray Charles, a Georgia native son, was an American treasure. He transcended racism, cultural upheavals, and spread his music based on Gospel, Blues, Jazz and Country around the world… he was a genius! Boasting iconic tunes from the catalogue of the genius himself, the artists make each song a winning part of the tapestry that is Ray Charles’ music. Ray won every major award, from the Georgia Music Hall of Fame to the Hollywood Walk of Fame… from the Kennedy Honors to a Grammy Lifetime Achievement award and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. THE FORT WORTH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, FEATURING LUFKIN NATIVE HANNAH
ROBERTS HOLIDAY CONCERT – Tuesday, December 17, 2019, 7:30 p.m.
The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra is deeply committed to uniting its community through performance, education and outreach, reaching an audience of more than 200,000 annually. Since its beginnings in 1912, the FWSO has been an essential thread in the city’s cultural fabric and the very foundation of Fort Worth’s performing arts. Music Director Miguel Harth-Bedoya, now in his 19th season at the artistic helm of the FWSO, has led the orchestra into the 21st century to new levels of excellence. Under his leadership, the FWSO has performed at Carnegie Hall and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. As the principal resident company of the acoustically superb Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall, the Orchestra performs a full season of concerts featuring internationally-acclaimed guest artists and works by living composers. The FWSO keeps exceptional musical experiences at the heart of its community. After all—life is better with music!
Lufkin native Hannah Roberts is thrilled to return to the Angelina Arts Alliance. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and the Eastman School of Music, Hannah resides in Houston, where she has performed with the Houston Grand Opera, the Houston Ballet, the Houston-based chamber choir Cantare, and Christ Church Cathedral. She received the Encouragement Award at the Houston-district Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and was a finalist in the Jessie Kneisel Lieder Competition. Hannah last appeared for the Angelina Arts Alliance in 2016 with the Mercury Chamber Orchestra, performing two Mozart concert arias. She is thrilled to return to sing with the world-class Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. Hannah is the daughter of Dr. Sid Roberts of Lufkin.
LADYSMITH BLACK MAMBAZO – Tuesday, January 21, 2020, 7:30 p.m.
For over 50 years, South Africa’s four-time Grammy Award winner, Ladysmith Black Mambazo has warmed the hearts of audiences worldwide with their uplifting vocal harmonies, signature dance moves, and charming
onstage banter. With a deep respect for both their cultural and personal history, Ladysmith Black Mambazo is
ever-evolving with an eye toward their long musical legacy. Since the world discovered their powerful a
cappella vocals from Paul Simon’s Graceland album, the original members have welcomed a younger
generation in their mission, passing along the tradition of storytelling and spreading a message of peace, love,
and harmony to millions of people the world over. The younger members, led by the four sons of group founder
Joseph Shabalala, who joined the group almost twenty-five years ago, have infused the group with a youthful
energy and the promise of a bright future. It was Nelson Mandela who anointed the group “South Africa’s
cultural ambassadors to the world,” a designation the members carry with them with the highest honor.
THE CHOIR OF MAN – Saturday, February 8, 2020, 7:30 p.m.
The runaway hit of numerous international music festivals is hitting the road for its first U.S. tour! Known
across the globe as “the ultimate-feel good show,” THE CHOIR OF MAN offers up 90 minutes of indisputable
joy! It’s a party. It’s a concert. It’s a pint-filled good time set in a working pub (free beer anyone?!?) that
combines hair-raising harmonies, high-energy dance, and live percussion with foot-stomping choreography. The

DINO-LIGHT – Sunday, September 22, 2019, 2 p.m.
DINO-LIGHT, formerly known as Darwin the Dinosaur, was the recipient of the prestigious Jim Henson
Foundation Grant and first feature-length theatrical production created and performed by creators Ian Carney
and Corbin Popp.
In this original storyline, a famous scientist with magic powers brings a friendly dinosaur to life. When the
dinosaur wanders away from home, he discovers a wonderful world full of creatures that light up the darkness
and help him find the true meaning of love.
This glow-in-the-dark adventure is visually amazing and has been praised for its cutting edge blend of puppetry,
technology and dance by audiences all over the world.
JUNGLE BOOK – Sunday, November 24, 2019, 2 p.m.
From the creators of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea comes a new theatrical adaptation of Rudyard
Kipling’s Jungle Book, re-imagining the classic stories through modern eyes to transport audiences to the
world’s jungles. Using a rich sound-scape and immersive multimedia, Jungle Book will feature your favourite
characters like you’ve never seen before, and will delve deep into the original themes of the story, and our
relationship to the animal kingdom.
