U.S. Chamber President Suzanne Clark on Thursday talked with legal experts about COVID-19 and the law. In the latest episode of the U.S. Chamber Foundation’s Path Forward series Clark was joined by panelists:

  • Peter Friedman, a partner in the restructuring practice at O’Melveny & Myers

  • Jamie Gorelick, a former deputy attorney general of the United States and chair of the regulatory and government affairs department at Wilmer Hale.

  • Torsten Kracht, a partner at Hunton Andrews Kurth.

  • Leo E. Strine, Jr., former chief justice of Delaware and counsel at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz.

The panelists discussed how the pandemic has affected the legal system, what courts are doing to reduce backlogs, why organizations are worried about pandemic-related lawsuits, and why you should be concerned about a wave of insolvencies.

Kracht, whose firm maintains a COVID-19 Complaint Tracker said, “We’re still early in the cycle of COVID-19 litigation.” Panelists advised employers should continue following government guidance to ensure employees and customers are safe.
