The Governor's Office of Economic Development
Posted 05/11/2021

Happy National Economic Development Week! This week (May 9-15), we celebrate our state's economic development champions and the great work they do in communities across Texas. In Texas, economic development is truly a team effort, and we are proud to celebrate our many local and regional partnerships. Now more than ever, our dedicated economic development teams are essential in creating new job opportunities and upholding our state's status as a symbol of economic prosperity. We invite you to watch Governor Greg Abbott's video on the importance of Economic Development Week for the state of Texas.

SBTGovernor Greg Abbott also declared this week to be Small Business Week in Texas! We are excited to share the Governor's press release and proclamation, which can be viewed online. To the right, you'll see the Governor's Small Business Team displaying the official Small Business Week proclamation.

Throughout the week, we look forward to highlighting the crucial role small businesses play in supporting our local communities and our state's economy. According to the most recent data from the U.S. Small Business Administration, nine out of ten businesses in Texas are small, and they employ nearly half of the state's workforce. This number proves just how important it is to support our state's small businesses and entrepreneurs, not only during Small Business Week, but throughout the year.

We hope that you will participate in Economic Development Week and Small Business Week in Texas. You can get involved in several ways:

  • Joining our next Governor's Small Business Webinar on Starting a Business in Texas, taking place Thursday, May 13, 2021, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., CT

  • Following @TexasEconDev on social media throughout the week as we highlight economic development champions and small businesses

  • Our newly redesigned small business webpages allow businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs to find information on doing business in Texas in a user-friendly format.
  • The new Governor’s Small Business Webinar Resource Library offers hours of video content from prior webinars that can be played back on demand.
