FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TAB Praises Governor Abbott for Adding Business Uniformity to Special Session Agenda AUSTIN – Texas Association of Business (TAB) CEO, Glenn Hamer, today praised Governor Abbott for adding business uniformity to the special session agenda. During the regular session, Senate Bill 14, called the Business Freedom and Uniformity Act, sponsored by Senator Creighton, stalled and did not make it to the Governor’s desk. This bill will ensure local governments cannot dictate to businesses how they operate, and it will remove a patchwork quilt of regulations throughout the state. Over the last few years, local governments in Texas have sought to mandate what kind of benefit offerings a business would have to make, dictated to them their hiring practices and even mandated what type of scheduling and rest breaks their employees can take.
“The business community of Texas thanks Governor Abbott for adding this critical issue to the special session agenda,” said TAB CEO, Glenn Hamer. “As the state emerges from the first pandemic in 100 years, the last thing it needs is local governments implementing overzealous regulations making it harder for businesses to recover. Now is the time to pass business uniformity and keep Texas the number one state in the nation for job creation.” Contact: Megan Herring (512) 637-7702 mherring@txbiz.org Texas Association of Business
