Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital has taken respiratory infection testing to the next level with the introduction of the BioFire® Respiratory 2.1 Panel. This easy-to-use tool is fast and accurate, using one comprehensive test to help quickly diagnose COVID-19, influenza, RSV and many other respiratory pathogens.
The typical symptoms of a respiratory infection can be caused by many viruses and bacteria, and traditional diagnostic methods limit testing to a narrowly defined group. The BioFire® system use one test that simultaneously targeting multiple pathogens with overlapping symptoms. Fast, accurate results help reduce guesswork, eliminate unnecessary testing and enable better-informed diagnosis and treatment of patients.
The BioFire® respiratory panels have been shown to reduce ICU days from 9.2 days to 6.2 days per ICU visit1 and duration of antibiotic use from 3.2 days to 2.7 days2, as well as lowering the need for chest radiographs in children3. The BioFire® system also can help identify co-infection between COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses.
