Better Business Bureau is issuing a public warning recommending consumers exercise caution when interacting with the San Antonio-based business known as Accents of Salado. BBB assigned an ‘F’ rating to this business due to a pattern of complaints and continued refusal to correct business practices that have resulted in nearly $200,000 of customer disputes. Consumers in 12 states have filed official BBB complaints against the business, which was previously located in Salado, Texas.
Of the 16 complaints filed against the company since November 2020, 14 allege they never received the furniture they paid for, and two consumers allege they did not receive all the furniture ordered. These consumers also state that Accents of Salado personnel knowingly misled them on numerous occasions about the status of their orders. In August 2022, BBB learned the business changed its name to Custom Furniture of Texas and relocated to San Antonio.
Following up on a series of complaints submitted by verified customers, BBB’s investigation team could not establish any indication the business is operating out of the last known San Antonio address listed. In August 2022, the website operated by the company was deactivated; however, the phone number for the business is still in service with an automated message that outlines its new name, relocation and hours of operation.
In the past 30 days, BBB has received 96 inquiries regarding Custom Furniture of Texas/Accents of Salado and has included a warning for consumers on the business’s BBB Business Profile. Representatives for the business initially responded to communications from Better Business Bureau regarding their business practices and customer complaints; however, subsequent attempts to establish regular contact have been unsuccessful. Inconsistencies between individual claims of business ownership, Texas Secretary of State filings and the Bexar County Clerk’s Office are also a cause of concern and introduce challenges in identifying who is ultimately responsible for ensuring customers receive purchased products.
Initial conversations with an individual who identified themselves as the new business owner centered around the business's renaming to help remove online reviews associated with Accents of Salado. While the individual claimed the renaming was to start the business on a clean slate, documentation requested by BBB proving business ownership was not presented, and Better Business Bureau has determined the business has not made a good faith effort to address previous customer complaints.
“This has all the indications of a typical rinse, wash and repeat business that has little interest in addressing customer disputes,” said a member of BBB’s investigation team. “Once a certain amount of negative sentiment has been targeted toward the business, they simply relocate, rename and do it all over again disguised as a ‘brand new company’ when, in fact, they are not.”
At this point, Better Business Bureau is recommending consumers exercise extreme caution when purchasing products from this business which may call itself Accents of Salado, Custom Furniture of Texas or Custom Furniture and Imports. Consumers who have had a negative marketplace interaction with this business are requested to contact Better Business Bureau to report their experience or file a complaint online at BBB.org/Complaint. Consumers who have purchased products from this business that were never received are encouraged to file a report with local law enforcement.
