Deep East Texas Council of Governments has committed to seeing that Broadband Internet is brought to its 11 Deep East Texas Counties.
We are currently holding a series of public sessions where the people in the DETCOG Region can check what service the New Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Maps show for their homes or businesses. (https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov/home) The accuracy of the new FCC Map is important because it will play a MAJOR role in the distribution of Federal Funds to build Rural Broadband Networks. If the FCC Map mistakenly shows we already have acceptable levels of Broadband Service or does not show the many places that don’t have Broadband Service, it will be hard to get Federal Funds to build a Broadband Network in Deep East Texas!
DETCOG will be holding three public sessions Thursday, January 12th in Nacogdoches County to assist businesses and homeowners to look at their properties on the FCC website and to file correction requests. The gatherings will be held at 9:30 am in Nacogdoches at the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce, 1:30 pm in Chireno at Chireno Café and at Garrison at 3:30 p.m. at the Garrison Volunteer Fire Department all with DETCOG staff on hand to assist.
The process requires household residents to review their addresses on the map and report, with evidence, any errors and should take from 5 to 15 minutes per address.
