Nacogdoches County Hospital District: Rubalcava Named Hospital District Indigent Program Coordinator
Posted 06/14/2023

Nacogdoches County Hospital District has named José Jesús Rubalcava as Indigent Program Coordinator. The Hospital District’s Indigent Health Care Program helps low-income Texas residents who don’t qualify for other state or federal health care programs to get access to health care services.

“I am so glad to be here and be able to help our community,” Rubalcava said. “The most rewarding part of this job is seeing the relief in the faces of the people I am able to help.”

Rubalcava has worked in health care for more than 22 years, starting as the in-house Spanish interpreter at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital during his last semester of college. In addition to his service as an interpreter, Rubalcava has also worked at the hospital as a staff accountant, a payroll manager, a financial analyst and controller.

“Jesús is the perfect person for this job,” Lynn Lindsey, Nacogdoches Hospital District CEO/Administrator, said. “He has the experience, he has the drive, but most importantly he has a passion for service. He understands and relates to the people he is serving, and he communicates with a level of compassion that is inspiring to witness.”

Rubalcava was in the Top Ten of his 1996 graduating class at Westwood High School in Palestine and earned his associate degree in business administration in 1998 from Trinity Valley Community College, where he was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, an International Honor Society of two-year colleges. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2001 from Stephen F. Austin State University, where he was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the honor society for collegiate schools of business, and Alpha Chi National College Honor Scholarship Society.

Rubalcava and his wife, Veronica Chavez Rubalcava, have two daughters, Ariana and Angelica, and two “awesome” dogs, Remington and Bonita. They are members of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Diboll, where Rubalcava is an instituted acolyte, president of the Pastoral Council and youth group director. In his free time, he enjoys working in the yard, road trips with his family and taking naps.

Nacogdoches County Hospital District strives to build a healthy community regardless of the individual’s ability to pay by providing the delivery of accessible, cost-effective, and high-quality transportation for healthcare needs and improving healthcare availability and education to meet the needs of patients and their families. Program information, including eligibility requirements, is available online at NacHD.org.
