The Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce board of directors announced UBank as the Medium Business of the Year – a Gary Justice Business Excellence Award.
Established in 1961 as Huntington State Bank in Huntington, Texas, the company expanded to Nacogdoches in 2000 and now serves several East Texas communities including Angelina and Smith counties. Since its founding, the bank has continually built a strong product set, learned how to navigate the regulatory environment, and established a strong team of employees who share a vision.
After years of steady growth, 2019 ushered in a completely new chapter for the organization – starting with a new management team and a comprehensive rebrand with a new name, logo and colors. This new brand persona, now known as UBank, positioned this financial institution as a community-oriented bank that is building the future of relationship banking.
“We believe that people bank with people, not a bank,” said Justin Armstrong, President & Chief Lending Officer. “That’s why we’re focused on creating an innovative banking experience that values, knows and empowers its customers to live their ambitions and forge their dreams today.”
In addition to the attention given to structural improvements that maximize efficiencies, UBank made giving back to the community a priority, launching Go Groups service teams in 2020. The Nacogdoches team has logged countless hours with nonprofit organizations including the East Texas Food Bank, Salvation Army, Family Crisis Center of East Texas and Alzheimer’s Association. The team plays a big role at the annual Texas Blueberry Festival, helping out at the Kids Bounce Park, and volunteering for Nacogdoches Area United Way’s Day of Caring and The Helping House Kite Fest.
“Our UBank employees also share financial literacy classes with local non-profits, schools, and businesses. Nacogdoches team members serve on Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Nacogdoches Jaycees, Salvation Army Board of Directors, NEDCO and Rotary,” Justin added.
Since its founding, UBank has worked to build a firm foundation that will stand the test of time and continually looks for creative ways to bring humanity back to the banking industry. With that in mind, Justin explained, “We’re on a mission to become a wingman for our customers – someone who is both a trusted partner and a valued friend. The one you can always depend on to make things happen and have a good time doing it. We want to open doors you thought were shut for good and show you others you didn’t know existed.”
UBank will be honored at the Nacogdoches County Chamber’s 101st Annual Meeting & Membership Banquet presented by The Fredonia Hotel and Convention Center on Sept. 26. Tickets and sponsorships are available, and space is limited. Please contact the chamber of commerce at 936-560-5533 or go to www.Nacogdoches.org for more information.
