Dear Fellow Texans:
Today on the National Day of Prayer, Americans of all faiths unite in fervent prayer for our nation.
America was founded as a sanctuary for the free exercise of religion. Our forefathers believed we should be a nation that stands for not only the tolerance of different faiths, but the celebration of them as well. This includes the freedom to worship in public, the freedom to practice any faith, and the freedom to practice no faith at all.
Sadly, we are not seeing these values represented today in many places across our country. Our college campuses have become hotbeds for antisemitism, and many Jewish Americans face hate, discrimination, and even threats to their physical safety. Religious persecution and prejudices of this kind have no place in our society – not now, not ever. The diversity of our faiths has been a blessing to our nation, and we must preserve this fundamental right for all Americans. Today, I will be praying for our Jewish friends and neighbors, and I urge all who are willing to join me in lifting them up in prayer.
I will also pray for guidance, protection from our enemies, mercy, and steadfast love. I will pray for the security, peace, and prosperity of our nation. And I will pray for God’s light to shine upon the world.
This year’s theme for the Day of Prayer focuses on David’s writing in 2 Samuel 22:29-31, which says, “For you are my lamp, O Lord, and my God lightens my darkness. For by You I can run against a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall. This God – his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; He is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him.”
Today, I invite you to pray for light to overcome darkness and good to overcome evil in our communities, our state, and our country. I trust in our Creator, who illuminates our paths, listens to our prayers, and remains an ever-present help in trouble.
May God bless you, and may He continue to bless the great state of Texas.
