A Safe Community

WE ARE PROTECTORS

Not only is Nacogdoches a beautiful and friendly place to live, but it is also a safe and well-protected community.

Nacogdoches Police Department
Within the City of Nacogdoches, the Nacogdoches Police Department (NPD) provides the best law enforcement protection possible by maintaining highly trained personnel through continual educational programs. NPD has a staff of 95: 65 officers and 30 civilians. In addition, Nacogdoches is served by 24 licensed peace officers in Stephen F. Austin State University’s police department, and six police officers, a K9 officer, two civilian truancy officers, a sergeant and a chief on the Nacogdoches Independent School District’s force. The Nacogdoches City-County Consolidated Communication Center is located at the NPD and is the 911 public service answering point for all city and county residents.

Nacogdoches Police Department boasts a SWAT team, Nacogdoches Police on the Brick StreetsHonor Guard, Lake Patrol, drone program and a K9 unit among many other specialty areas within the department. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is an NPD volunteer organization that assists us with hundreds of volunteer hours annually ranging from crime scene perimeter to community events. CERT consists of approximately 20 volunteers who also assist with Project Lifesaver for Alzheimer’s patients and identifying handicapped parking violations.

One very important service of the NPD is the Lifesaver Program, created to assist the Nacogdoches Treatment Center and Alzheimer’s Association. This program maintains a database of individuals who suffer from dementia and/or Alzheimer’s and allows the police department instant access to information for those individuals in case they become lost.

Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Department

It is the mission of Nacogdoches Fire and Rescue to protect and enhance the quality of life in Nacogdoches through a comprehensive program of services directed toward public education, prevention, and control in areas of fire, rescue, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and disasters. Nacogdoches Fire and Rescue serves the city from five fire stations. The department employs 58 uniformed firefighters, two civilians, and numerous volunteer support personnel. The City of Nacogdoches is protected by three 24-hour shifts that begin and end at 7am. Each shift is staffed by 17 firefighters and a Battalion Chief who serves as shift commander. Fire Administration is staffed by the Fire Chief, a Division Chief-Fire Marshal, Division Chief-Emergency Manager, Administrative Fire Captain, and a Fire Services Coordinator. Firefighters are certified by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and as emergency medical technicians or paramedics by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Nacogdoches Fire and Rescue provides an all-hazard response to calls involving fires, motor vehicle or industrial accidents, medical emergencies, and hazardous materials incidents. Fire and Rescue personnel attend and engage in various training activities and scenarios throughout the year to be prepared to respond when needed. Nacogdoches Fire personnel conduct annual fire and life safety surveys and inspections of properties, provide public fire education programs in public schools and tours of the fire stations and fire museum. Additionally, firefighters help maintain and inspect the City’s system of over 1,500 fire hydrants and maintain stations, apparatus, and equipment to ensure that the department is ready to respond night or day. The department operates five engines, one tower ladder, one medium duty rescue, and three wildland engines, and responds to over 4,500 calls for service each year.
